(Uniondale, NY, April 3rd, 2025)
The New York Dragons have named Sean Tremblay as an assistant coach. A Long Island native, Tremblay was the first player ever signed by the original New York Dragons and played for them in 2001 and 2002.
And now, Tremblay is back where it all begin for him in arena football.
“I’m very excited,” said Tremblay. “It’s a full circle moment for me. My seven seasons in the Arena Football League were some of the best in my life.”
Tremblay is the first assistant coach to be named to the staff of Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Gerald Filardi.
“I’m excited about Sean joining the staff,” said Filardi. “He brings a ton of coaching experience as well as arena football experience and he is an original Dragon.”
Tremblay has been the Head Coach at his alma mater Comsewogue High School since 2013. During his first season with the Warriors, Tremblay was named the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week on September 13th. He was promoted to Head Coach in 2013 after spending 12 seasons as an assistant coach.
While they will be working with each other for the first time, Tremblay and Filardi certainly know each other very well as Tremblay’s team has square off against Filardi’s Half Hollow Hills West team since 2019.
“Gerald and I have coached against each other for some years now,” said Tremblay. His teams are always prepared and play very hard. I have gotten to know him better during this process and I am excited to get started.”
Following his high school playing career, Tremblay played one season at the University of Georgia before transferring to the University of Connecticut. He began his professional playing career with the Albany Firebirds and was part of their 1999 Arena Bowl XIII team before moving on to the Dragons and the Carolina Cobras.
With the new Dragons team in the Entertainment Football Association, Tremblay share’s the vision by Coach Filardi in putting together a roster made up primarily of players from Long Island.
The football world is about to realize why the region’s nickname is “Strong Island”.
“As a head varsity coach, I have seen Long Island scouted and recruited much more than years past,” said Tremblay. “People are starting to realize the level of athletes that we have here on Long Island.”
The Dragons will be hosting open tryouts on April 8th and 19th at US Academy of Soccer in Farmingdale. Registration is underway at www.nydragonsfootball.com.
